Quick Answer

Quick answer for Greenwood: custom window treatments are measured in the home, built to those measurements, and installed a few weeks later. Here's what people usually want to know before booking that first measure.

  • Services: faux wood blinds, wood blinds, vertical blinds, aluminum mini blinds
  • Service area: Greenwood, Johnson County, IN and surrounding areas
  • For anything already installed, service visits are quick because we're working with parts. For new custom orders, expect a measure, then a few weeks of fabrication, then an install appointment we book once the product has been inspected.

Schedule Your Free In-Home Measure

The measure is three widths and three heights at every opening, at top, middle and bottom, plus a diagonal check wherever the house has moved. Across the 1940 to 1979 quarter of Greenwood, a quarter inch to a half inch of out of square in a single opening is normal rather than a defect. We also read mounting depth at the stop, because the 3.25 inch nominal jamb common in post-1990 construction handles a 2 inch blind and struggles with a deep cassette. Those readings decide the mount before any fabric gets picked.

I agree to be contacted by Greenwood Window Treatments regarding my inquiry.

Greenwood is two measuring problems sharing one mailing address. The 2000 to 2019 stock is 39.8 percent of the city's 27,721 units, and the 2000s alone put up 6,587 houses with standard vinyl frames, a 3.25 inch nominal jamb and a flat stop that takes a 2 inch blind cleanly and fights a deep headrail. Then there's the 25.1 percent built 1940 to 1979, 6,944 ranch and split level units on Johnson County clay, where a quarter inch to a half inch of out of square across one opening is ordinary and a later vinyl unit set inside the original frame has already eaten the mounting depth. Same city, same afternoon, two different answers about whether your shade goes inside the opening or on the trim. We settle that with a tape before anything is ordered.

Splitting a project by room is completely reasonable and we price it that way. What changes is dye lot risk on fabrics and availability risk on discontinued lines. If you're doing the Greenwood main floor now and upstairs in the spring, we'll note the exact product, color and lot on your file. It improves the odds. It doesn't guarantee a match, and we won't claim it does.

We disclose the annoying things before you pay, not after. Inside mounted shades leave a light gap at each side. Blackout fabric doesn't make a blackout room by itself. Motorized shades run on batteries that need replacing about once a year. Woven woods let light through without a liner. None of that stops people from buying. It stops people from feeling cheated, which is a better outcome for everyone in Greenwood.

Built in the Last Few Years?

Many of our Greenwood customers moved into a house built by one of these companies. Builder blinds are usually stock sizes trimmed to fit, so if yours came with the house and never ran right, that is why. We measure the openings as built rather than off the plan.

What We Are Running in Greenwood Right Now

Both offers apply to work quoted and ordered while they are posted here. Ask about them at the in-home measure and we will put the discount on the written quote before you decide anything.

Offer 1

$500 Off Your First Exterior Screen, Plus a Free Motorization Upgrade

Take $500 off your first exterior screen and we will add the motorization upgrade at no charge. Exterior screens stop solar heat outside the glass, which is the only place you can stop it before it is already in the room, and a motor is the difference between using one and forgetting it.

Applies to a first exterior screen. Ask at the measure so the discount is on the written quote before you order. Motorized product runs on batteries that need replacing, about a year on Hunter Douglas PowerView.

Offer 2

Free Motorization Upgrade on Select Interior Shades

Pick from the qualifying interior shade lines and the motorization upgrade is free. It is worth most on the openings you would otherwise leave alone: tall great room glass, anything above a stair, and the west windows nobody remembers to close by four.

Select interior shade lines only. We will tell you at the measure which of your openings qualify. Batteries are a real running cost and are not included.

Equal Payment Plans

Divide the project cost into equal monthly payments across a fixed promotional period, so the budget is predictable from day one.

Window Treatment Services in Greenwood

From one room to a whole house, Greenwood Window Treatments measures every opening, orders it custom, and installs it with the same crew that took the measurements.

Faux Wood Blinds in Greenwood

Custom faux wood runs about two to five weeks from order to install, and nothing about that is worth rushing. Whites vary between production runs, so if you're doing part of the Greenwood house now and part later, expect a visible difference between the two batches.

Learn more

Wood Blinds in Greenwood

A wood headrail needs depth inside the opening to sit flush, and older Greenwood trim doesn't always offer it. When the depth isn't there, an outside mount on a bracket looks deliberate. A headrail hanging proud of shallow trim never does.

Learn more

Vertical Blinds in Greenwood

Verticals are what you'll use when the opening gets genuinely wide. A long run of glass in a Greenwood great room takes a single track with a center split, so neither half travels the whole span and the stack lands where the wall can carry it.

Learn more

Aluminum Mini Blinds in Greenwood

Motorizing a mini blind is technically possible and almost never worth the money, since the product costs less than the motor. If a Greenwood window really is out of reach, we'd rather put a motorized roller shade there and leave aluminum for the windows you can touch.

Learn more

Roller Shades in Greenwood

A motorized roller is the easiest automation in the house, and the batteries are the part nobody's quoting. Hunter Douglas states about a year on PowerView. Multiply that across a Greenwood great room and decide now whether hardwired power is worth planning around.

Learn more

Solar Shades in Greenwood

Interior screens stop some solar heat, and they stop it after it's already through the glass. That's the physical limit. For a Greenwood room that genuinely overheats in July, an exterior shade outside the glass does more, and we'd rather say so than oversell the interior one.

Learn more

Cellular Shades in Greenwood

Light filtering cellular fabric glows: the room gets diffuse daylight and no view at all. Blackout cellular blocks light through the fabric and doesn't touch what gets around it, so a truly dark Greenwood bedroom still needs side channels or an outside mount over the opening.

Learn more

Zebra Shades in Greenwood

Zebra fabrics turn over in the catalogs faster than most, and openness naming isn't consistent between makers. If a second Greenwood window in the same room is even a possibility, buy both now. Matching a discontinued band pattern later isn't something we can promise.

Learn more

Roman Shades in Greenwood

Motorized Romans work well because the lift is slow and controlled, which is kinder to the folds than a hand pull. Batteries run about a year on Hunter Douglas PowerView, and a heavy interlined shade on a tall Greenwood window won't be the one that goes longest.

Learn more

Woven Wood Shades in Greenwood

Against a fabric roller, a woven wood brings texture and an irregular, warm light. Against a wood blind, it softens a room instead of striping it. What it gives up to both is privacy, unless you add the liner, and that's the whole Greenwood tradeoff.

Learn more

Blackout Shades in Greenwood

Backings age. A blackout fabric that spends a decade against hot Greenwood glass can stiffen and eventually craze, and the first sign is usually pinholes of light where there weren't any before. That's a fabric replacement rather than a repair, and it's years out.

Learn more

Plantation Shutters in Greenwood

Greenwood Window Treatments is insured and bonded, and shutters are exactly the kind of job Indiana's IC 24-5-11 was written for: a written contract with scope and price on residential work over $150. Your Greenwood order names the frame style and the louver size.

Learn more

Cafe Shutters in Greenwood

Half the panel height isn't half the price, because the frame and the hardware cost much the same either way. Nationally, interior shutters run about $175 to $800 per window and a Greenwood cafe order lands lower in that range without being cheap.

Learn more

Motorized Shades in Greenwood

Motorizing every opening in a house is the most common overspend we see. Put motors on the glass that's hard to get to or on a bank you'd otherwise operate one at a time, and leave the rest of the Greenwood house on cordless lift.

Learn more

Custom Drapery in Greenwood

Stationary panels are decoration. If you actually want to close them at night, that's a traverse rod or a rings-and-baton setup, and the hardware costs more while needing a deeper return. We ask which one a Greenwood room needs before pricing anything.

Learn more

Valances & Top Treatments in Greenwood

Swags and cascades are not automatically dated, but they're specific. They belong on tall formal Greenwood rooms with deep trim and real ceiling height, and they look wrong on a builder opening with narrow casing. We'll tell you which one you've got.

Learn more

Exterior Solar Shades in Greenwood

If a Greenwood wall has nothing solid to mount to and nothing overhead to protect the roll, an exterior shade is the wrong product. Interior solar shades or an awning on a freestanding frame will serve you better, and we'd rather redirect you than sell it anyway.

Learn more

Retractable Awnings in Greenwood

Awnings work best on high sun. At midday in July an awning over a Greenwood south wall throws real shade, and by five in the afternoon the sun's low enough to come in under the front bar, which is where a drop valance or a side screen earns its keep.

Learn more

Commercial Window Treatments in Greenwood

Maintenance is a line item worth planning. Fabric shades in a Greenwood building need periodic cleaning by a defined method, hardware needs occasional adjustment, and a documented spec means the next facilities manager can order a matching unit and doesn't start a new product search.

Learn more

Skylight Shades in Greenwood

If a Greenwood house is still under construction, run power to the skylight before the ceiling closes, because you won't get that chance again. A hardwired overhead motor removes the battery question permanently, and the cost of that wire during a build is nothing compared to opening a finished ceiling later.

Learn more

Sliding Glass Door Blinds in Greenwood

On door glass the openness factor question gets sharper, because you're looking through this opening more than any other. Three percent keeps a usable Greenwood backyard view while cutting most of the glare, and one percent trades that view for the darkest afternoon in the room.

Learn more

Panel Track Blinds in Greenwood

An outside-mounted track leaves a gap at the top where light passes above the panels. Adding a fascia or setting the track tight to the ceiling closes it, and it's worth doing, and on a Greenwood bedroom that detail is the difference between a dark room and a bright line at dawn.

Learn more

Sheer Shades in Greenwood

Pairing these with stationary drapery panels is the standard move for a formal Greenwood room, and it isn't only about looks. The shade does all the work and the panels frame the window, which also solves the night privacy problem if the panels are made to actually close.

Learn more

Pleated Shades in Greenwood

Arched and angled openings take pleated fabric well because the folds can be built to a template. A Greenwood house with a half round above a window can get a stationary pleated fan that fills the shape, though it won't operate and we'll say so before you order.

Learn more

Bamboo Shades in Greenwood

The bottom rail on a woven shade is usually a wrapped hembar that keeps the weave hanging straight. It's also the part that takes every knock, so on a Greenwood door or a high traffic window we'd rather spec a sturdier rail than the lightest option available.

Learn more

Dual Shades in Greenwood

These suit rooms where the light changes through the day and you'd rather have one control for it. A Greenwood living room facing east gets a harsh morning and a soft afternoon, and a dual shade handles both without you swapping between two treatments on the same window.

Learn more

Top-Down Bottom-Up Shades in Greenwood

The whole product is really about sill height and sightlines. On a Greenwood street where the sidewalk sits close and the windows start low, the bottom rail lands right at standing eye level from outside, and that's the number we work from rather than a fraction of the window.

Learn more

Cordless Blinds in Greenwood

There's no cord to restring, which removes the single most common blind repair from the picture entirely. What's left is the tilt mechanism and the lift cassette, both replaceable while the blind stays on the wall, so a Greenwood service call rarely means reordering the whole treatment.

Learn more

Hardwood Shutters in Greenwood

Muggy season here runs from about the twenty-fifth of May into late September, and interior air swings along with it. Hardwood panels take on a little width in that stretch and give it back in winter, and that's why a Greenwood shutter gets fitted with clearance rather than jammed tight into its frame.

Learn more

Composite Shutters in Greenwood

Composite handles the arch and the angle better than you'd expect. A stable core holds a curved frame without seasonal movement, so a Greenwood transom or a sunburst opening can be shuttered permanently as a fixed panel with operable louvers below it.

Learn more

Smart Home Shade Integration in Greenwood

Scenes beat schedules for most Greenwood families. A single morning scene that lifts the kitchen and the family room while leaving bedrooms alone gets used every day, where a rigid timer gets overridden by week two. We'll set scenes with you in the house, not from a spreadsheet.

Learn more

Blind Repair & Restring in Greenwood

Older cord safety kits are worth removing, not repairing. Cleats, tie-downs, wall hooks and tension devices only work when someone uses them every single day. If a Greenwood household has small children, converting the lift or changing the treatment is the durable answer, and we'll say that plainly.

Learn more

Shutter Repair in Greenwood

Sometimes the answer is no. A set with rotted bottom rails, missing louvers, a snapped tilt rod and a frame that's come away from a settled Greenwood opening isn't a repair, it's a replacement wearing a repair's clothes. We'll say that on the first visit and price the alternative honestly.

Learn more

Motorization Retrofit in Greenwood

Retrofits don't fix fit. If a Greenwood shade was built too narrow and leaks light down both edges, adding a motor gives you a light gap that opens on command. We'll tell you when the right answer is a new shade rather than a motor inside an old one.

Learn more

Outdoor Patio Shades in Greenwood

Anchoring is structural work. Brackets go into framing or a solid post, never into trim alone, and where a Greenwood porch has a wrapped column we'll open enough of it to find something real. A shade that pulls out in year two was mounted into whatever happened to be closest.

Learn more

Office Window Treatments in Greenwood

Cleaning has to be somebody's job. Office shades collect dust along the hembar and the cassette, and a documented method plus an annual pass keeps a Greenwood installation looking deliberate. Fabric that gets scrubbed with the wrong thing is the most common avoidable damage we see.

Learn more

Healthcare Window Treatments in Greenwood

Patient rooms want daylight and control, and they don't want them at the same hour. A dual system with a light-filtering layer and a darkening layer lets a Greenwood room have an outward view during the day and a genuinely dark space at night, without asking staff to compromise on either one.

Learn more

Multifamily Window Treatments in Greenwood

Common areas run on a different spec than units. A Greenwood clubhouse, fitness room or leasing office is a public space with ADA reach range requirements for operable parts, and it usually wants a better fabric than what's behind an apartment door.

About Us

Local Expertise, Real Results

An inside mount still leaves light down the sides: Lutron publishes 3/4 inch per side on its Roller 20/64, and the factory takes 1/16 inch per side off your width before the fabric is cut. You should hear both numbers from us at the measure, not discover them at 7 a.m. in an east facing bedroom.

Greenwood Window Treatments works throughout Greenwood on custom window coverings, and a good share of the work is second-round: fixing what got ordered online at the wrong size or specified for the wrong room. There's no judgement in that. Custom product is easy to get wrong from a distance, and Johnson County houses rarely measure the way the plans say they should.

A good share of the work we do at a Greenwood address isn't in Greenwood. Every subdivision we've checked west of US 31 in ZIPs 46142 and 46143 comes back township WHITE RIVER and school district CENTER GROVE COM in Johnson County parcel records. That's unincorporated Center Grove: no mayor, no council, no municipal line, and residents there say Center Grove even when the envelope says Greenwood. Three school corporations split these addresses, Greenwood Community, Center Grove and Clark-Pleasant, and the boundaries ignore the city limits entirely. None of that changes a tape measure. It changes how we find you and what we expect to see when we walk in, because the house on Chancery Boulevard and the house on Brewer Street are not the same job.

We're insured and insured. Indiana issues no statewide license for this trade, and Indianapolis has no window treatment category either, so anybody claiming a state license for blinds and shades is describing something that doesn't exist. What does exist is the Indiana Home Improvement Contract Act, IC 24-5-11, which requires a written contract with a real scope, real dates and a total price on residential work over $150. Almost every Greenwood order clears that number, so you get the document. On it you'll find the finished width and finished height for each opening, the factory deduction we applied, the mount we chose and the reason for it, and the dye lot, because the 16 to 24 opening houses out here get done in phases far more often than they get done at once.

Our Promise

Every opening gets three widths, three heights and a written mounting depth before anyone talks price. You'll hear the light gap number for the mount you choose at the measure, not after install day. Lead time is 2 to 5 weeks and we won't dress that up. The dye lot goes on your paperwork so a later phase still matches.

Why Greenwood Chooses Us

Why Greenwood Homeowners Trust the Tape, Not the App

Serving Greenwood and Johnson County with quality materials, thorough inspections, and transparent pricing.

The 1999 median hides a split

Greenwood's median year built is 1999, which sounds like one kind of house and isn't. Behind that median sit 517 units from before 1940, 6,944 built 1940 to 1979, 8,695 built 1980 to 1999 and 11,021 built 2000 to 2019. We measure to the era in front of us. A 1974 split level in Carefree gets three widths, three heights and a diagonal check. A 2006 two story off Stones Crossing Road gets three widths anyway, because wide great room assemblies drift even when the house is square.

We quote the plat, not the city

Carefree is 704 parcels across at least 18 recorded sections, from CAREFREE 2ND SEC to CAREFREE 18TH SEC PART 2, so a house on Easy Street and a house on Nevermind Way can be a decade apart. Innisbrooke is about 120 lots where seven of nine streets are the subdivision name with a different suffix. Woodland Streams is only 98 parcels but platted across six sections plus a replat. Those are different quoting problems, and the name on the sign tells us which one.

Depth is the Greenwood constraint

Post-1990 construction here typically gives a 3.25 inch nominal jamb with a flat stop. That's fine for a 2 inch blind or most cellular shades and tight for a large headrail or a cassette. The 1960s to 1980s houses that took a later vinyl unit inside the original frame lose depth at that unit and often can't hold an inside mount without a spacer. The pre-1940 Old Town stock is the opposite: deep plaster or wood lined returns, generous but never uniform. We read depth at every opening and write it down.

No covenant we haven't read

No recorded covenant was obtainable for Carefree, Sheffield Park, Foxberry Trace, Innisbrooke, Brentwood, Fairview Heights or Woodland Streams, and we found no verifiable recorded rule anywhere in Greenwood governing street facing window covering color or reflective backings. Plenty of associations do have one. If yours does, hand us the page and we'll design to it, usually with a white or off white street side behind whatever you picked for the room. What we won't do is invent a rule to sell you a liner.

Our Process

A Greenwood Project in Plain Order

Four steps, and none of them start with a catalog. Greenwood's stock is mixed enough that the tape has to run first: a 1972 ranch on Fairview Road and a 2019 two story on Stones Crossing Road are both Center Grove addresses and they need different answers at the opening. After you approve the order, fabrication runs 2 to 5 weeks. That's a factory schedule, not a delay, and nothing in this trade is an emergency.

In your openings, not ours

We come to the house and measure every opening you want covered: three widths, three heights, mounting depth at the stop, and a diagonal where Johnson County clay has had 40 to 70 years to work on the frame. Nothing gets ordered off a plan sheet or a builder's window schedule. If a room has a bay, a transom or a wide great room assembly, that gets drawn rather than described.

Mount, openness and roll direction

Inside or outside mount is a depth decision, and we'll tell you the light gap either way. Openness factor comes next, 1, 3, 5 or 10 percent depending on how much view you want to keep against the glare. Roll direction matters too: reverse roll pulls the fabric closer to the glass but doesn't work with a fascia. Shades over 120 inches tall, or past a 4 to 1 height to width ratio, get larger light gaps than the standard figure.

Written contract, then fabrication

IC 24-5-11 requires a written contract on residential work over $150, and your order will carry finished sizes per opening, the factory deduction, the mount, the product line and the dye lot. Then it goes to the factory. Custom fabrication is 2 to 5 weeks, which is why a Cherry Tree Walk closing date and an install date are two separate dates on your calendar.

Brackets, level and travel limits

Install day is bracket layout, level, and operation checked at every unit. Wide great room shades in the post-1995 Center Grove plats get a center support bracket so the roller tube doesn't deflect and hang the hembar crooked. Motorized units get travel limits set and paired to the remote before we leave. Cord operated units get the chain tensioner fastened to the wall, which is what keeps a loose loop from being a hazard.

Common Causes

What we see most often on Greenwood window treatments

Greenwood homeowners typically call us about these scenarios.

Hardwood Shutters Cupping In A Bathroom

Timber louvers in a room with a shower running twice a day through a muggy central Indiana summer will move, and once they have cupped they don't come back. It's the most expensive avoidable mistake in this product. Composite in wet rooms and hardwood everywhere else is the specification that lasts.

The Tilt Wand Turns And Nothing Happens

The little gearbox that drives the slats has stripped, usually because somebody forced it past its stop. On most blind lines it's a stocked part and a short visit. The failure is common enough that being able to name it on the phone means we arrive with the right component instead of diagnosing and returning.

The Neighbors Can See Straight In

A front room close to the pavement, or a kitchen facing a driveway ten feet away, and the household has been living with the lights off in the evening. What they usually want is daytime privacy without losing the light, which points at a top-down bottom-up cellular or café height shutters rather than covering the whole opening.

Drapery Left Short By New Flooring

The floor got raised by an inch and now the panels hang above it looking like a mistake. Hemming to the finished floor height isn't something you can fix after the fact without recutting. It is a timing problem, and it's the reason we ask about renovation plans before measuring.

Two Shades That No Longer Match

A pair was ordered eighteen months apart and in daylight the newer one reads slightly cooler than the old. That's a dye lot, not a mistake, and it's why we tell Greenwood customers which rooms should be ordered together if they're phasing a house. Once it has happened, the honest options are to accept it or to redo the pair.

Great Room Glass Nobody Can Reach

Two stories of window above a fireplace, blazing in the afternoon and freezing at night, and no realistic way to operate a manual shade. Households live with it bare for years. Motorized shades on that wall aren't a luxury, they're the only version of the product that will actually get used.

How We Work

Five Stages, In This Order

Custom window treatments are made to your openings, so the order matters more than it does in most trades. This is how every Greenwood job runs.

1

Free In-Home Measure

Every opening gets three widths, three heights and a diagonal square check, because houses settle and an opening that is out of square is the difference between a shade that runs true and one that binds. Mounting depth gets read at the jamb. It all goes on paper before any product conversation starts.

2

Product and Fabric, In Your Own Light

Samples get looked at in the room they are going in, not under showroom lighting. This is where openness factor, inside versus outside mount, roll direction and material get decided, and where we tell you the light gap you are going to live with.

3

Written Scope and Contract

Opening by opening, with the mount type, the light gap, the operation and the total price in writing. Indiana requires a written contract on residential work over $150 under IC 24-5-11, and we would write one anyway.

4

Custom Fabrication

Your sizes go to the workroom. Two to five weeks is typical depending on product and finish, longer on specialty shapes and motorized configurations. You get the real date at the measure rather than a range.

5

Install and Walkthrough

Brackets anchored for the substrate they are going into, everything checked level and square, motor travel limits set and scenes built with you standing there. Then we show you how it all works and take the packaging with us.

Common Questions

What Greenwood Clients Ask About Motorization

Straight answers to the questions Greenwood homeowners ask most.

Yes, and you've described the most common address situation in this market. Every subdivision we've checked west of US 31 in 46142 and 46143 returns township WHITE RIVER and school district CENTER GROVE COM in Johnson County parcel records. That's unincorporated Center Grove, which has no town government and no municipal boundary, and residents use the name because it belongs to the school corporation. Three corporations serve Greenwood addresses altogether: Greenwood Community, Center Grove and Clark-Pleasant. For measuring purposes none of it matters. For knowing what your street was built like and when, it matters quite a lot, so give us the plat name along with the address.
Almost certainly not, and this one trips people up. The residential district was added to the National Register in 2017 and covers about 300 buildings dating from the 1870s, either side of Madison Avenue, next door to the Commercial district listed in 1991 with its 25 contributing buildings. National Register listing here is honorific. When the designation was being pursued it was described publicly as optional, carrying tax credits rather than restrictions, and we found no local preservation ordinance imposing exterior design review on private houses in that district. Interior window coverings would sit outside that in any case. If you belong to an association, that's a separate document and you should read it.
Sometimes, and we won't know until we read the depth. When a later unit is fitted inside a 1970s frame it stacks its own frame in front of the old one, so the flat depth behind the stop shrinks and frequently won't hold a standard headrail without a spacer. Carefree is 704 parcels across at least 18 recorded sections built from the late 1960s into the 1980s, so the answer genuinely changes between Easy Street and Nevermind Way inside one subdivision. Where depth is short we go to a shallow clearance headrail, a spacer block, or an outside mount on the trim with a light blocking pocket if the room needs to get dark.
Because a lot of Greenwood isn't. The 1940 to 1979 stock is 6,944 units, and after 40 to 70 years on Johnson County clay a quarter inch to a half inch of out of square in a single opening is ordinary. Fairview Heights, Brentwood and Carefree all sit in that band. Custom fabrication cuts to the number you hand it, so if we give the factory the widest width on a racked opening the shade binds against the frame, and if we give it the narrowest we've built you a light gap you'll notice at sunrise. We take the narrowest width and the tallest height, and the diagonal gets recorded too.
First we work out what actually needs covering. Great room walls became routine in the plats built after 1995, and the lower units usually carry the privacy job while the upper band is purely glare and heat. A common answer is motorized on the upper units and hand operated below, which keeps the battery count down. Watch stack height: on a tall shade the stacked fabric sits at the top of the glass and takes several inches of view even when the shade is fully raised. We give you that number at the measure. Wide units also need a center support bracket or the roller tube deflects and the hembar hangs off level.
It can, and it's worth deciding whether it should be. Half round and quarter round transoms and palladian gable assemblies appear all over the 1995 to 2007 Greenwood elevations, because the city was platting hard during the exact years those fronts were in fashion. A fixed arch panel in cellular or shutter material follows the curve and blocks most of the light, but it doesn't operate. An operable sunburst exists in some lines and costs more. Plenty of people leave the arch bare and treat the rectangle below it, on the grounds that the arch is above eye level and nobody is looking in through it. We'll price both ways.
Willow Lakes and Willow Lakes East together run 127 parcels on a median lot of about 0.36 acre, and the street names tell you what you're dealing with: Shoreline Drive, Marina Court, Harbor Court, Water Way Drive. A lot backing water has nothing to interrupt the western and southern sun, and the water bounces it back up at the glass. A 3 percent openness solar shade holds the view and cuts the glare hard. A 5 percent gives more view and more glare. A 10 percent is barely working at that exposure. We bring samples and hold them up in your own room at the hour you find intolerable.
Top down bottom up is the usual answer on course frontage. Hickory Stick is platted as separate villages, Raintree, Stoney Pointe and Heatherwood, and lots backing the course have an open rear exposure that no future building can ever block. That cuts both ways: the view is permanent and so is the sightline into your house. A top down bottom up cellular lets you drop the top rail for daylight while the lower half stays covered at eye level. Worth knowing that the community sits in the Bargersville fire district while feeding Center Grove schools on a Greenwood address, so give us the village name and the street.
Greenwood counts 10,753 renter occupied units among 26,415 occupied households, so this is a real segment here and not an edge case. For turnover units, faux wood blinds and plain roller shades take handling better than hardwood or anything with a fabric face that shows fingerprints. Cordless lift removes the operating cord entirely, which matters when you don't control who's living there. Standard stock sizes in the $60 to $600 national range are a legitimate choice for a rental. Custom fabrication at $250 to $2,600 per window, also a national range, is money you spend when the opening is odd or the tenant is staying for years.
Rear sliding patio doors are close to universal on the 1,800 to 2,600 square foot two story stock built 1990 to 2009, so we quote them constantly. Vertical blinds remain the least expensive working answer, and the vane carrier stems are replaceable one at a time when one snaps. A panel track reads cleaner and stacks tighter against the wall. A wide roller with a cassette works if you can accept the stack sitting above the head. Whichever you pick, tell us which side the door slides from, because the stack has to land over the fixed panel or you'll be shoving fabric aside every time you step out.
Close, and possibly not exact. Fabric is dyed in lots, and a run made a year later can shift slightly even under the same product name and the same color number. It shows most when two units hang in one sightline. We record the dye lot on your order for exactly this reason, and where a second phase is planned we'll tell you up front whether the line is still running the same lot. Phasing is normal in Greenwood, especially through the 2000 to 2009 stock, which was the city's biggest building decade at 6,587 houses and typically carries 16 to 24 openings that almost nobody covers all at once.
Hunter Douglas states PowerView battery life at about one year, and that is the most under disclosed cost on a motorized job anywhere. Put twelve motorized units on a Center Grove great room wall and the bedrooms above it and that's twelve battery changes a year, several of them at the top of a two story opening. The alternatives are a rechargeable battery wand you drop out and trickle charge, or hardwired power run by an electrician while the wall is open. We set travel limits and pair the units at install. We don't do the electrical work, and you'll hear that before you order rather than after.
Eagle Trace runs a median lot of about 0.43 acre against roughly 0.34 acre in Kensington Grove and 0.36 acre in Willow Lakes, so you are set back further than most of your neighbors and the front elevation is genuinely less overlooked. That usually means a lighter treatment at the front and the room darkening budget saved for bedrooms. The plat is heavily cul de sac based, at least six named courts among roughly 21 streets, so many houses sit on pie shaped lots where the rear fans out at an odd angle. Orientation there is lot by lot, which is why we look at the actual house instead of assuming.
We don't know, and we would rather say so than guess. No recorded covenant was obtainable for Sheffield Park, and the same is true for Foxberry Trace, Innisbrooke, Brentwood, Fairview Heights, Woodland Streams and Carefree. We also found no verifiable recorded rule anywhere in Greenwood governing street facing window covering color or reflective backings. Associations frequently do have one. If yours does, send us the page and we'll design to it, which normally means a white or off white street side on whatever you chose for the room. Sheffield Park is a compact plat of about 130 lots on streets named New London, Wales, Orkney and Cork, so it is easy for us to find.
After closing, in your own house, with the trim finished. Greenwood recorded only 544 units built 2020 or later, 2.0 percent of the stock, so new construction here is the exception and Cherry Tree Walk is one of the few places where this question comes up at all. New wood framing moves through its first heating season, so a number taken during construction can be off by the time the shades arrive. Fabrication is 2 to 5 weeks after you approve the order, which means the measure and the install are two different dates. Expect bare windows for a few weeks and it won't bother you.
Start with the rooms you use after dark. A Queen Anne or Italianate from the 1870s to 1930s commonly carries 20 to 30 openings, because rooms were lit from two sides and the stair hall has glass of its own, and those openings are tall, narrow and often arched at the head. Every one is custom, which is precisely why phasing makes sense. The good news is depth: plaster or wood lined returns in that stock usually give generous inside mount depth. The dimension varies opening to opening inside the same house though, so we measure all 26 rather than measuring one and multiplying.
Indiana Climate

Indiana Weather Affects Window Treatments Year Round

Indiana sees some of the most varied weather in the country. Greenwood homeowners live in IECC climate zone 5A, which carries a real cooling load in summer and a real heating load in winter. July averages a high near 85F, January averages a high near 36F with lows near 21F, and the muggy season runs from late May into late September. That is why the same window can be the hottest room in the house in July and the coldest in January.

36.1F outside, one cell of air

A January average high of 36.1F and an average low of 20.9F is a real heating load, not a mild winter. Department of Energy and Oak Ridge National Laboratory testing found cellular shades saved up to 20 percent of heating energy and up to 15 percent of total heating and cooling energy against a bare window. That's the product doing two jobs in a city where July averages 85.2F. It is a percentage against a bare window, and we won't convert it into a dollar figure for you.

The new plats have no shade yet

The 2000s and newer sections toward Worthsville Road and Stones Crossing Road were farmland, and their street trees are years from covering anything. Those houses take low angle sun on the front and rear elevations through the whole year, which is a different problem from the shaded 1970s streets in Carefree. Solar screen at 3 or 5 percent openness on the exposed elevations, cellular where the heating load matters most, and we'll walk the house at the hour that actually bothers you.

Open water and open fairway

Willow Lakes runs 127 parcels named for water, Shoreline Drive, Marina Court, Harbor Court, Water Way Drive, and lots that back the water have nothing to interrupt the western and southern sun. Hickory Stick does the same thing with a golf course behind the Raintree, Stoney Pointe and Heatherwood villages. Reflected light off water or open turf hits glass from below as well as above, so openness factor matters more on those lots than it does two streets inland.

UV is 40 to 60 percent

NFRC attributes roughly 40 to 60 percent of fading damage to ultraviolet light. The rest is visible light and heat, which is why no window covering prevents fading and anyone promising that is overselling. What a solar screen or a lined drapery does is slow it. In the Old Town houses off Madison Avenue, where original interior woodwork is often the reason people bought the place, slowing it is worth doing deliberately rather than by accident.

Choosing the Right Treatment for Greenwood Rooms

An honest breakdown of the three we specify most often, and when each one is the right answer.

Cellular Shades

The one product in this trade with measured energy numbers behind it. Trapped air in the cells does the work, and DOE and ORNL testing found cellular shades saved up to 20 percent on heating energy and up to 15 percent on total heating and cooling against a bare window. In a Greenwood house that matters in January and again in July, which is unusual for one product. Single cell suits most rooms, double cell where the glass is large or the room runs cold. Top-down bottom-up gets you daylight and privacy at the same time.

Both seasonsInsulating$$
Solar & Roller Shades

What you reach for when the complaint is afternoon sun. Solar fabrics come in stated openness factors, and that number is the whole decision: a lower openness cuts more glare and more of the view, a higher one keeps the view and cuts less. On a west or south Greenwood window this is usually the honest answer rather than blackout, because blackout kills the room. Cassette or fascia hides the roll, and roll direction gets decided at the measure so the fabric does not foul a crank or a lock.

Glare controlKeeps the view$$$
Plantation Shutters

The one that stays with the house. Shutters are a finish rather than a covering, and they do not get replaced every few years. In Greenwood the material choice is technical rather than a matter of taste: composite and poly in bathrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms and sunrooms, because a four month humid season followed by a dry heated winter will move real hardwood, and hardwood only where the room stays conditioned. Louver size, frame style and divider rail get decided standing at your window.

Light Control

See What Each Fabric Does To The Light

Pick a fabric below and the window updates. It's a drawing rather than a photograph, so read it as a rough guide to what each family does in a Greenwood room, and to what it doesn't do.

Fabric type

Sheer, 10 percent openness

Ten percent of the weave is open, so you keep the view and most of the daylight. Glare drops a little. After dark, once your lamps are on, someone outside can read shapes through it, which is why this belongs on a view window rather than a bedroom.

Openness factor is printed on the fabric card, so you can compare one line against another before you order anything.

Keeps the viewNot private after dark

Solar, 5 percent openness

The usual pick for a west window or a covered porch. You can still read the yard through it, glare comes down noticeably, and the fabric intercepts a good share of the sun before it reaches you at four in the afternoon.

It also cuts the UV landing on floors and furniture. NFRC puts UV at roughly 40 to 60 percent of fading damage, so this slows fading rather than stopping it.

View and glare controlSlows fading

Solar, 3 percent openness

A tighter weave. The room goes dimmer and the view drops back to an outline. Choose it where the sun is the problem and the view is second, which around here usually means a west wall in July. That's a common call on this side of Indianapolis.

Openness affects how much you see out, not how private you are. A 3 percent fabric still shows silhouettes at night.

View becomes an outlineStrong glare control

Solar, 1 percent openness

Close to a solid fabric with a little view left in it. This is the strongest glare control in the solar family.

The trade is that it darkens the room on a gray January day too. Indianapolis averages a January high near 36F and the light is flat, so think about how the room reads in both seasons before you commit.

Darkest solar optionDim on gray days

Light filtering

No view through it. Daylight comes through the face diffused, so the room stays bright without a hot spot across the television or the kitchen island. This is the default for living spaces.

It isn't private in reverse at night. With the lamps on and the sun down, silhouettes still show.

No view through itBright without the glare

Room darkening

A denser fabric, usually with a liner behind it. Most of the light coming through the face is gone.

Light still arrives around the edges on an inside mount, so a room darkening shade gives you a dim room rather than a dark one. If someone in the house sleeps during the day, say so at the measure and we'll scope it differently.

Dim, not darkEdges stay bright

Blackout

The fabric itself passes essentially no light. What you'll still see is the perimeter. Lutron publishes an inside-mount light gap of about 3/4 inch per side on its Roller 20 and 64 shades, along with a standard factory deduction of 1/16 inch per side, and shades over 120 inches tall or past a 4:1 height-to-width ratio get larger gaps than that.

So if you need a genuinely dark bedroom, that gap has to be dealt with on purpose, either with side channels or by going outside mount. We tell you which one your opening can carry while we're still standing in the room.

Dark facePerimeter needs a plan

Openness factor is a measured fabric spec, so you can compare it line to line. The category names are not measured. One maker's room darkening can behave like another maker's light filtering, which is why the sample books come to the measure and get opened in the room they're going in, at the hour that room has the problem.

About 300 buildings either side of Madison Avenue, dating from the 1870s through the 1930s, listed on the National Register in 2017 and marked with historic markers unveiled in 2023. This is the only part of Greenwood where pre-1940 housing is normal rather than rare: citywide, pre-1940 stock is 1.9 percent of units and 517 houses, and Old Town holds most of it. The elevations are Gothic Revival, Italianate, Queen Anne, Romanesque Revival, Colonial Revival and Craftsman, mostly two story, with bungalows in the later blocks. The Greenwood Commercial Historic District, listed in 1991 with 25 contributing buildings, adjoins it downtown. For window work this district behaves like nothing else in Johnson County. The openings are tall, narrow, frequently arched and 90 to 155 years old on clay soil, so every one gets measured on its own. View Greenwood Residential Historic District window treatment details →
Carefree is the largest single named plat in the Greenwood parcel records: 704 Johnson County parcels whose legal description begins CAREFREE, roughly five times the size of the typical Center Grove subdivision of 120 to 130 lots. It built out in numbered sections from the late 1960s through the 1980s, and the legal descriptions run from CAREFREE 2ND SEC all the way to CAREFREE 18TH SEC PART 2, so at least 18 sections went in across about two decades. Every street is named on a theme of idleness: Easy Street, Lazy Lane, Nevermind Way, Ramblin Road, Tranquil Trail, Nonchalant Court, Elbow Bend Boulevard, Happy Hollow Court, Primrose Path. Nothing else in Johnson County does that, and residents search by the street name because the street name is the memorable part. The housing is ranch, split level and tri level, in ZIP 46142, inside Center Grove schools. View Carefree window treatment details →
Eagle Trace is 131 Johnson County parcels off Olive Branch Road in White River Township, recorded in Sections I through 3, with a median lot of about 0.43 acre and a range from roughly 0.35 to 0.81 acre in a 40-parcel sample of the county ACRES attribute. That's materially larger than the plats around it: 0.34 acre in Kensington Grove and 0.36 acre in Willow Lakes, measured the same way. The plat is heavily cul de sac based, with at least six named courts among about 21 streets, and every street but two carries the word Eagle. It straddles two ZIP codes, 46142 and 46143, so neighbors in the same subdivision write different addresses. The era isn't directly sourced. Johnson County publishes no year built attribute, so we treat the 1990s reading as a working assumption and confirm it at the measure. View Eagle Trace window treatment details →
Willow Lakes is a water oriented plat in a township with very little water. It exists as two linked communities, Willow Lakes and Willow Lakes East, each with numbered sections 1 through 4, together making 127 Johnson County parcels whose legal description begins WILLOW LAKES. Lots run a median near 0.36 acre with most between 0.32 and 0.50 acre from a 40-parcel sample of the county ACRES attribute. Twenty street names in the county records are built on lake and harbor vocabulary: Shoreline Drive, Lakeshore Court, Harbor Court, Marina Court, Water Way Drive, Willow Circle Drive and Fountain View Drive among them, with one street recorded simply as The Courts. The community sits on Stones Crossing Road and Lake Crossing Road in White River Township, entirely inside ZIP 46143 and entirely inside Center Grove schools. View Willow Lakes window treatment details →
Sheffield Park is a compact single section plat of about 130 parcels in White River Township, entirely inside ZIP 46142, west of US 31 in the Center Grove area. Only Section 1 is recorded, so unlike Carefree with its 18 numbered sections and two decades of building, this community went in as one piece and holds a narrow band of vintages rather than a multi decade spread. Its streets are named for British and Irish places: New London Drive, Prince Drive, Kilda Drive, Aquaduct Drive, Wales Court, Orkney Court, Onslow Court, Cork Court and Altair Court. Several parcels still carry ZIP+4 extensions in county records, 46142-9111 and 46142-9212, which points to rural route addressing history on the edge of the plat. The housing reads two story traditional and ranch, and Johnson County publishes no year built attribute for any of it. View Sheffield Park window treatment details →
Foxberry Trace is a 128-parcel plat in White River Township, wholly inside ZIP 46143, on the Center Grove side of Greenwood. Seven streets hold it together: Chancellor Drive, Queensgate Drive, Ramsgate Road, Gateshead Lane, Chantry Way, Lionshead Lane and Chelsea Terrace. Johnson County records the housing as two story traditional and shows the plat recorded in phases, including a sub lettered Section 2B, which in this county usually marks a split during build out. The county's parcel layer carries no year built field, so we won't quote you an era we can't source. Every address feeds Center Grove Community School Corporation while the mail reads Greenwood. There's no lake and no course frontage anywhere in the plat, so rear elevations look at other houses rather than open ground, and that one fact drives more of the specification here than the compass does. View Foxberry Trace window treatment details →
Innisbrooke is a roughly 120-parcel plat in White River Township, ZIP 46142, on the Center Grove side of Greenwood. It's the community where seven of nine streets are the subdivision name with a different suffix: Innisbrooke Lane, Drive, Trail, Avenue, Court and Place, plus Inni Way. Give the suffix or nobody finds you. The two that break the pattern, Crooked Stick Court and Racquet Court, name golf and tennis, which points to a sport amenity plat rather than a plain production run. Johnson County records both two story traditional and ranch here, across Sections 1 and 2, and several parcels still carry rural route style ZIP+4 codes, a sign the plat was laid out on what was then the edge of settled Center Grove. At about 120 lots on one repeated name, it's one of the most internally uniform plats in the township. View Innisbrooke window treatment details →
Brentwood is one of the larger plats in the Center Grove area, more than 150 parcels by a county query that capped out at a full page, with lot numbers in Section 3 alone running past 175. It straddles ZIPs 46142 and 46143 in White River Township and feeds Center Grove Community School Corporation. Every internal street is named for a tree or a wood: Mahogany Drive, Teakwood Lane, Thornwood Drive, Yellowwood Drive, Driftwood Lane, Laurelwood Drive, Blue Spruce Court, Sequoia Court and Tulip Lane, with Runyon Road carrying the frontage. Johnson County records ranch first and two story traditional second here, and the canopy is the thing you notice: Brentwood is one of the 1960s to 1980s Center Grove plats where 40 to 55 years of tree growth now shades front elevations. Don't confuse it with Brentridge Estates. Different plat, different community. View Brentwood window treatment details →
Fairview Heights is a 121-parcel plat on Fairview Road in White River Township, straddling ZIPs 46142 and 46143 west of US 31. Its streets are topographic rather than themed: Summit Ridge Drive, Summit Ridge Road, Summit Ridge Court, Hillendale Drive, Crest Drive and Hazy Lane, with frontage on Fairview Road and Peterman Road. That naming reflects genuinely higher ground in an otherwise flat township. The plat takes its name from the road rather than a developer's invention, which is how the county's earlier subdivisions tend to read. Johnson County records ranch and two story traditional here, across Sections 1, 2 and 3, and Center Grove Community School Corporation serves every address. The window consequence is specific: because Fairview Road and Peterman Road run east and west on the section line grid, a real share of Fairview Heights houses put a principal elevation due north or due south. View Fairview Heights window treatment details →
Woodland Streams is a small plat with a complicated record: about 98 Johnson County parcels, recorded across at least six sections plus a replat inside Section 5. That's roughly 16 lots per section, unusually fragmented for a community this size, and it means Woodland Streams holds a wider spread of construction dates than a 98-lot subdivision normally would. It sits in ZIP 46143 off West Smokey Row Road in White River Township, and it physically interlocks with Cedar Hills, sharing the Cedar Hills South Drive frontage, so the two names get used interchangeably even though the lot patterns are different. Saddle Club Road frontage points to an equestrian land use that predates the subdivision. County records put the plat in the Bargersville fire protection district while its addresses feed Center Grove Community School Corporation and the mail reads Greenwood. View Woodland Streams window treatment details →
Hickory Stick is the only golf course community identified in the Greenwood area parcel records, and it isn't platted as one subdivision. Johnson County legal descriptions record at least three separately named villages under a single master plan: Raintree Village at Hickory Stick, Stoney Pointe Village at Hickory Stick and Heatherwood Village at Hickory Stick. Residents give the village name, not the master name, when they say where they live. It sits in White River Township on the Greenwood and Bargersville edge, around the Hickory Stick Golf Club, inside the Bargersville fire protection district while feeding Center Grove Community School Corporation. The county records two story traditional along with villa and patio home product here. The window story is the rear elevation: lots backing the course have permanently open western and southern exposure that no future construction can obstruct, and that is a different specification from any interior lot subdivision in this township.
